We designed this model at Scotty Barnhart's request last year, just before he recorded his first solo CD, "Say It Plain." After having heard the positive results other players experienced with new "SLAP" mouthpieces, Scotty asked us if an upgrade to his B1-5 mouthpiece would be possible in time for the CD recording. Dave Monette got on the computer and drew up several variations, retaining Scotty's B1-5 rim but with different degrees of "SLAP" cups. We settled right on on the S4 version, and Scotty immediately found the mouthpiece provided a snappier, more stable response, with easier register extremes and better projection - all the usual benefits our new "SLAP" mouthpieces are known for. We're happy that the new design worked so well that Scotty used the new mouthpiece on his recording, and has never looked back. Thanks Scotty!
